The basics of belly dance
You can never practice enough the basics of oriental dance. They form the foundation of our dance.
The clearer and cleaner they are executed, the easier it will be for all subsequent movements later on. Conversely, mistakes or imperfections later continue in all compound movements that contain the respective basic movement. So it pays to train and polish the basics again and again. The best dancers work on it again and again and constantly drill their technique and isolation.
A good and solid basic technique also ensures that we can dance in a body-friendly and health-oriented manner and have fun dancing for a long time!
In addition to the training in the dance hall, the theory forms an important basis for understanding the basic techniques and learning how the movement system in oriental dance is structured. This is especially helpful later on, in order to be able to analyze and implement even complex movements.
Oriental dance consists of just 6 basic movements. That doesn’t sound like much. But together with steps, turns, arm position and foot positions, combined with shimmy, isolation and simple accents, there are endless possibilities and variations, so that it never gets boring and you always discover new challenges!
With the basic elements you can already create beautiful dance combinations up to complete choreographies. It is better to dance a simple sequence of movements beautifully and cleanly with joy than to carry out a complicated combination half-heartedly.
Despite all the concentration on the technique, one should not forget that it is only the first step! It is our foundation and prerequisite for being able to dance well. Every writer naturally knows the alphabet and spelling. But only vocabulary, grammar, formulations, feeling for language, writing style and much more put him in a position to be able to write a novel.
In other words: If you learned everything you need to dance in one week, then Monday would be devoted to technique – and Tuesday to Sunday would be other important topics on the program.
In addition to technique and dance implementation, expression is what counts! Technology impresses – expression touches. No layman will be able to say whether a seesaw is correctly executed. But he will see immediately when expression, smile, joy and passion are missing. Because technology is not everything – but without technology everything is nothing.
